WORDPAINT - Technical Help

About Javascript & Cookies

JAVASCRIPT is a language developed to facilitate user-interactivity and animation on websites.

Javascript is a scripting language whose "interpreter" is built right into your internet browser.  Javascript is one of the core languages that enables user interactive functions on web-sites such as filling out and submitting forms, shopping carts and saving your user preferences and passwords to websites.  An extremely high percentage of Internet Users are comfortable with having Javascript enabled in their browsers.

Most of the navigation features in WordPaint depend on Javascript.  Because of the size and scope of WordPaint, navigation bar codes are written into Javascript files which are then automatically loaded when the page loads in your browser.  That way, if we add a new language, all we have to do is update the Javascript file and all pages will list the new language.

If JAVASCRIPT is DISABLED in your browser, you will not be able to navigate effectively throughout this website.  To ENABLE JAVASCRIPT, see instructions below.

COOKIES are used by this website to improve our STATISTICS reporting.

Cookies are used by WordPaint to help improve the SITE STATISTICS that are normally maintained by all websites at the server level.  Since we are not asking for user input from you, the only information the cookie can generate for us is whether you are a "return" visitor, or a "first-time" visitor.

All websites, even those NOT using cookies, can "see" your IP number, your "referrer" (site whose link you clicked on to get to us), search-engine phrases used to find their site; and they can also log which pages in their sites you are visiting.  Even though you can "turn off" cookies in your browser preferences, this will not prevent any site you visit from gathering the above information.  Most people disable cookies due to "3rd party cookies" set by websites who sell or lease this information to consumer profiling services.  No such 3rd-party cookies are used by this website.  Our stat-counter service issues the following statement about their use of cookies to enable statistical reporting:

Important Privacy Note: StatCounter.Com respects your privacy, and the privacy of your visitors. Personally identifiable information such as visitor's name, telephone number, postal address and email address are technically impossible for StatCounter to collect and no attempt is made to do so. The information that is recorded consists of the date and time of visit, ip address, browser (e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0), operating system version (e.g. Windows 2000), screen resolution (e.g. 800x600), referring link, the current page url and the current page title. A small cookie is created with no personally identifiable information to determine whether a visitor has been to your website before (e.g. a first-time or returning visitor).
